Fresh from a tour supporting The Beths, LA-based artist Jess Kallen has revealed their latest single, ‘Persimmon Song’. It’s a catchy, jaunty song that leans into its modern indie rock sound, with the simplicity of acoustic guitar strumming counterbalanced by sudden jolts of distorted electric guitar and distant, spacey synth drones. The track “came out of a period of whiplash, as I (like so many) reentered the world post-pandemic. I felt so overwhelmed and overstimulated at the time, like I was playing catch-up with my own expectations of who I was supposed to be by then.” Their new album, DON’T BLINK!, is out on January 24th, 2025, via New Professor Music. -Dan Peeke
